Borovets Bike Park Open Cup 2012 is over

Between June 22th and 24th 2012 Borovets hosted Borovets Bike Park Open Cup 2012 with some 200 competitors from Bulgaria and abroad. This is the second year in a row that an international mountain bike race is held in Borovets gathering participants from Bulgaria, Great Britain, Greece, Rumania, Ukraine and others.
The race was on the International Cycling Union’s (UCI) calendar bringing the winners points for the world ranking list. This was also the second year in a row for British guys to dominate on the awards podium with Ben Baker of S4P team coming first closely followed by last year’s champion Rob Smith (Ram Bikes). A fall on the last section of the race track delayed Rob by a few seconds and this cost him the first place.

The third step on the podium was occupied by Hristo Todorov (True Riders, Bulgaria). His brilliant riding and perfect time earned him the applauses of the audience. In the open categories the competition was also tight and the contestants showed excellent skills and results.
Some 30 participants raced in the teenage category and among them the best times belonged to Martin Bochukov - first place, Yoan Neichev (Drag racing team )- second and Ivan Aji (Cheta++/Velocity) – third. The youngsters challenged brilliantly the hard conditions of the race and deserved to step on the podium where rewards from Bike House and kids champaign were awaiting for them. The first place among women was snatched by the Russian Alexandra Jirnova (Race star), second ranked Ilinda Eftimova (Drag racing team). Ilinda was first in the qualifications but unfortunately lost a few seconds at the finish. Eva Dimitrova (Cheta++/Velocity) was third.
In one of the most contested categories – boys with bikes with no additional suspension – the first time was achieved by Yavor Dashev (Difference), second ranked Nikola Hristov (Velocity) and Slavi Iliev from Alexi Nikolov resort near Varna – third.
In men category the best results among the 90 contestants were achieved by Dimitar Gaidov (True Riders) who deserved to step on the top of the podium. Valentin Pashkov (Industrial.bg) finished five seconds later and ranked second. Right after him with just a second difference finished Ioannis Ioannou from Greece and climbed on the third step.
